Privacy Policy

Substation Capacity operates substationcapacity.com and the tools hosted on it. This policy explains what data we collect and why. Questions can be sent to hello@substationcapacity.com.
What we collect
If you use the map or batch screening tools:
- The address, coordinates, or CSV of site locations you enter, so we can return capacity data for those locations.
- If you upload a CSV for batch screening, we send the addresses in it to Geocodio, a third-party geocoding service, to convert them to coordinates. We do not store your CSV after processing beyond what is needed to return your results.
- Basic request metadata, including timestamp, endpoint called, and rough usage count, so we can enforce rate limits on the public demo key and keep the service running.
If you create an account or use Watch/Alerts:
- Your email address, so we can send alerts when a substation you are watching changes.
- The substations or circuits you have chosen to watch and your alert threshold.
If you use the public demo key:
- We track request counts against the demo key, which are not tied to your identity beyond an IP address or session, to enforce the demo rate limit. Watch/Alerts and some other features are disabled for demo-key traffic.
We do not:
- Sell your data.
- Share your watched-substation list or CSV contents with anyone other than the service providers listed below.
- Use your data for advertising or profiling.

Each service has its own privacy practices. We send only the minimum data needed for the service to do its job. For example, Geocodio sees addresses, not who you are.
Accuracy disclaimer
The underlying capacity data comes from public ArcGIS feeds published by electric utilities. We normalize and store it, but we do not control its accuracy, and some sources are known to be stale or lower-confidence. This is disclosed in the tool through data quality tiers. This is a data screening aid, not a substitute for direct utility confirmation before making a siting or investment decision.
Data retention
- Historical capacity snapshots are retained indefinitely because trend detection depends on history.
- Batch CSV uploads are not retained beyond the session needed to return your results.
- Account data, including email and watch list, is retained until you ask us to delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete your account, email, and watch list at any time by emailing hello@substationcapacity.com. We will confirm deletion within a reasonable time.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here for at least 30 days.
